A gorgeous Victorian cuff bangle featuring twelve square panels, each one adorned with a high relief depiction of a flower or plant. The Victorians created a secret "language of flowers" whereby different flowers and plants were infused with meaning. In this case we have: a Grape vine for charity, mirth, and intoxication; Rose and wheat for love and prosperity; Ivy for fidelity, dependence, and affection; corn for wealth; and a fruit bowl, presumably for bounty and abundance. Much like acrostic jewellery, the language of the flowers allowed for covert communication of sentiments and feelings between lovers. Given the particular sentiments of this bangle, I'd say it was probably a wedding gift.
