A fabulous antique Victorian harlequin bracelet, lined with eleven multi-coloured cushion cut gemstones, including quartz, garnets, topaz and sapphires. The smallest stones weigh approx. 0.50ct and graduate in size to a 2ct white sapphire in the middle.
All the gemstones are vibrant and beautifully cut, but the most striking stone has to be the enchanting cabochon star sapphire that exhibits a pale-blue hue and a bright star-shaped asterism that appears in direct light.
Harlequin jewellery is named after the colourful costumes of the 16th century comedy actors of the same name. The style was popular during the 19th Century and saw wonderful pieces of jewellery abundantly decorated in coloured gemstones.
The stones are all claw set in 18ct yellow gold frames, which join a silky curb chain at the back, held by a ring clasp. It’s a fabulous Victorian bracelet from the late 19th Century, with a gorgeous rainbow of natural gems on display.
